This blog is just a way to personally muse on the nature of Classics and Classical History without having to conform to research methodology or other academic trappings. It’s also a place to collect interesting information found out and about on the net into a single location. Its not meant to accurately reflect the author’s specific research interests or method — all that goes into his research databases!

The author, Scot Mcphee, is a PhD student in Ancient History & Classics at the School of history, Philosophy, Religion and Classics, University of Queensland. He completed the Masters program in 2010. His specific interests in classical history are the problems of the representation of space in Latin first century B.C. historiographical literature, specifically the Roman historian Livy and his representation of warfare in Ab Urbe Condita.

Any opinions expressed here belong exclusively to the author unless explicitly stated otherwise: there is no pretence this blog represents an institutional viewpoint.

The images at the top of the blog are all details from those which were taken by the author, mostly at the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, California.
